FAQ

We answer your burning questions about herbal cigarettes and herbal smoking blends here.

about our products

What's in your smoking blends?

Our herbal cigarettes and loose-leaf blends contain an herbalist-formulated blend of organic, food-grade herbs and that's it. No tobacco, no nicotine, no cannabis. You can find full ingredient lists under each product description here.

How will they make me feel?

Each smoking blend is designed for a different experience: to relax, to focus, or to help you unwind before bed. Take our quiz to find your perfect match.

What’s the difference between your blends?

Each blend is crafted for a different experience: Signature for general relaxation, Stimulating for social energy and focus, and Sleepy for rest and calm.

Will they get me high?

No, our herbal smoking blends won’t get you high. They’re crafted to take the edge off without any intoxication or impairment.

Will these show up on a drug test?

No! Our herbal smoking blends contain no THC, hemp flower, or cannabis whatsoever. There also isn't anything in our herbs that is tested for on drug tests.

I have CHS, can I smoke these?

Yes! If you have cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS), you can smoke these. Our blends contain no THC, cannabis, or cannabinoids so they won’t trigger CHS symptoms.

What happened to the herbal spliffs?

We recently made the decision to remove our hemp CBD-containing herbal spliff line to focus on our best-selling herbal cigarettes and our loose-leaf herbal smoking blends. We hope to be able to bring the herbal spliffs back in the future.

Where are your products made?

Everything is made in and ships from the United States.

Are your herbal cigarette filters biodegradable?

Yes! Our filters are made with biodegradable materials.

Why are these priced higher than regular cigarettes?

Our pricing reflects high-quality, organic ingredients, sustainable packaging, and ethical made-in-the-USA production.

How do I keep the herbal cigarettes fresh?

To keep them fresh, make sure to fold the foil back up inside the pack after each use. If you want to store them longer-term, a sealed glass jar or airtight plastic bag will help maintain their flavor and smoothness. But like any herbs, they’re best enjoyed sooner rather than later.

Are your herbs tested for contaminants?

Yes, we ensure our herbs are ethically sourced and are third-party tested for contaminants.

If there's no hemp in your blends, why are your herbal cigs rolled in hemp paper?

The hemp paper our herbal cigarettes are rolled in is simply a plant-based rolling paper made from hemp fibers, just like how some rolling papers are made from rice or wood pulp. The hemp paper we use contains no cannabinoids (no CBD or THC), ensuring a completely cannabis-free smoking experience.

My herbal cigarette feels too tightly packed. How can I improve the draw?

If your herbal cig feels too tightly packed and isn’t drawing well, try rolling it gently between your fingers before lighting. This helps loosen the herbs and allows for better airflow.

about herbal smoke

What's the point of smoking herbs?

Historically, humans have had an intimate relationship with smoke. We've worked with it in times of celebration, journeying, spiritual and religious rituals and ceremonies, and personal relaxation.

Beyond the ritual itself, different herbs can offer unique effects instantly when smoked: some are calming, others are uplifting, and many have been traditionally used for lung support.

Our herbal smoking blends offer a non-addictive alternative for those who enjoy smoking but want to avoid tobacco or cannabis. Whether you’re quitting nicotine, taking a tolerance break, or creating a more intentional ritual, we’ve got a blend for you.

Do I need to inhale or can I just puff?

It’s up to you. Some people just savor the taste, while others inhale for a deeper effect. You’ll feel the herbs more noticeably and immediately if you inhale and hold for a comfortable amount of time.

Can herbal cigarettes help me quit smoking?

Many people switch to herbal smokes to help reduce or quit nicotine or THC. While we can’t claim they’ll help you quit, they can replace the habit while giving you the familiar ritual of smoking without the addiction.

Are herbal cigarettes safe to smoke?

Any smoke inhalation carries risks, but our blends are free of tobacco, nicotine, and additives. We focus on high-quality, organic ingredients to provide a mindful alternative.

How do herbal smokes smell compared to tobacco?

The smoke from herbs has a distinctly different scent from tobacco. Instead of the strong, acrid, and lingering smell of burnt tobacco, our blends produce a lighter, more herbal aroma that varies depending on the ingredients - similar to incense. While the scent is noticeable (it is smoke, after all), it doesn't cling to clothes and spaces in the same way tobacco does.

How do herbal smokes taste compared to tobacco?

The taste of herbal smokes depends on the blend, but they generally have a smoother, more botanical flavor compared to tobacco. Some blends are earthy and woodsy, others are crisp and minty, and some have floral or slightly sweet flavors. While they can have distinct herbal notes, you're still inhaling smoke, so expect that natural smokiness.

Will smoking herbs actually satisfy my smoking habit?

Herbal smokes provide a full-bodied, smooth smoking experience, but without the nicotine buzz or THC high. If you smoke for the ritual, relaxation, or as a break, smoking herbs provides a satisfying alternative.

Can you smoke herbs in public?

Our herbal cigs look like regular cigarettes, so people may assume they’re tobacco. We recommend checking local smoking laws and using discretion.

Can I travel with herbal cigarettes?

Generally, yes, but be aware of customs regulations when traveling internationally. Since they look like regular cigarettes, carrying them in sealed, unopened packaging may help avoid misunderstandings.

Can I mix herbs with tobacco or cannabis?

Yes! Many people use our herbal blends as a base to mix with cannabis or as a way to dilute their tobacco use. Whether you're looking to smooth out a joint, cut down on nicotine, or create a custom smoking experience, our blends are versatile and can be mixed to suit your preference.

about refillable lighters

What should I fill your lighters with?

Our refillable lighters use standard lighter fluid, like Zippo brand. Do not use butane, torch fuel, or gas station lighter refills - these won't work and may damage the lighter.

How long does a full fill last?

That depends on how often you use it, but here's a general idea:

  • Tsubota Pearl Queue Lighter: Lasts about 1–2 weeks of regular use (a few lights per day).
  • Mushroom Lighter: Thanks to its larger size, it can last 2–3 weeks or more under similar use.

Keep in mind, lighter fluid can evaporate slowly over time even if unused, so it’s normal to need a top-up every now and then. To help it last longer, store your lighter upright, capped, and away from direct heat.

How do I fill/refill the Mushroom Lighter?
  1. Open the lid and lift the small metal lever to the left of the wick, unlocking the insert. Then, pull the lighter insert out of the metal case.
  2. Turn the insert upside-down and gently lift the felt pad to reveal the cotton chamber. Slowly add lighter fluid (not butane) in small increments until saturated. Don’t overfill!
  3. Insert the lighter back into the case, then press the lever back down into place. Wipe away any excess fluid from the lighter and your hands, and wait a minute before lighting.
How do I fill/refill the Tsubota Pearl Queue Lighters?
  1. Unscrew the bottom screw with a flathead screwdriver, then hold the lighter upside-down.
  2. Fill the refilling inlet with lighter fluid (not butane) slowly in increments, otherwise chamber will overflow and not fill up completely.
  3. Screw bottom screw back in, and wipe lighter and hands dry before igniting.
Can I travel with these lighters?

When traveling on a commercial airline, you can bring one lighter that uses a flammable liquid that is absorbed in a lining (Zippo-type). For safety reasons, permitted lighters must be in your carry-on or on your person (in your pocket), not in checked baggage.

A lighter that is truly empty (absolutely no fuel residue or vapors) is not regulated by the DOT as a hazardous material. There is no limit on how many empty lighters you may carry; however, carrying multiple empty lighters could cause delays at security screening checkpoints. The FAA recommends that passengers pack empty lighters in checked baggage accompanied by a note explaining that they contain no fuel.

Are refillable lighters really better/more sustainable than disposable Bic lighters?

Yes! Refillable lighters dramatically reduce waste. Instead of tossing a lighter every time it runs out, you’re only refilling fluid or replacing small parts like flints or wicks. That means fewer plastic lighters ending up in landfills or oceans.

The wheel is stiff. Why can't I turn it?

To create the spark that ignites the lighter fluid-soaked wick, the wheel makes contact with a flint stone inside the lighter. It's common for new flint stones to be stiff, making it hard for the wheel to turn against it.

To ease the wheel's movement, you can break in the flint by turning the wheel backwards until it starts to turn more smoothly and easily.

Why is the flame so small/big? Can I adjust it?

These lighters don’t have a traditional flame adjustment switch. However:

  • Flame too small? Try pulling the wick up a little or topping off your fluid.
  • Flame too large? Trim the wick slightly and let any excess fuel evaporate before lighting.
Why does my lighter smell like fuel after filling?

This is normal right after refilling. It usually means some fluid got on the exterior or surrounding area. Wipe it down and let it air out for a few minutes. If the smell lingers for hours or days, you may have overfilled it (see next question on what to do).

What should I do if I overfilled it?

No worries, it happens. If fluid is dripping or you smell strong fumes:

  1. Let the lighter sit upright and uncapped for 15–30 minutes to allow evaporation.
  2. Wipe down the outside with a paper towel or rag.
  3. Wait until the smell fades before lighting to avoid flare-ups.
Where do I get replacement flints and wicks?

We recommend using standard Zippo-style flints and cotton wicks, which you can find at your local hardware store or online. Most are inexpensive and last a long time.

How do I replace the flint? How often?

Flint is a small black stone used to create a spark with the flicking of the spark wheel. Similar to lighter fluid, the flint will need replacing with use. Replace the flint when the wheel becomes stiff and difficult to turn.

To replace the flint:

  1. Remove the wheel-unit by pulling straight out. Do not twist when pulling out.
  2. Unscrew the flint cap from the bottom of the unit.
  3. Replace worn out flint with a new flint.
  4. When re-inserting the wheel-unit into the lighter, push straight down, making sure the red dot faces outward.
How do I trim or replace the wick? How often?

If your flame is weak or inconsistent, use tweezers or pliers to pull the wick up slightly until a clean section appears, then cut off the old section with scissors or nail clippers.

Replace the wick when it becomes too frayed, charred, or if the lighter struggles to light or hold a flame.

How long should the wick be?

About 3mm exposed is ideal for the Tsubota Pearl lighters.

Anywhere from half up or even with the top of the chimney, depending on how tall you like your flame, is ideal for the Mushroom Lighter.
