Hi, I'm Lian! I'm a clinically-trained herbalist with a background in ethnobotany.

My name is pronounced like "lee-AHn" - it's a Chinese name and I've seen it translated to both "lotus flower" and "graceful willow," both of which feel fitting to me. I'm Italian-American (my last name is Bruno) and Chinese from my mother's side.

I don't really identify as too many other things because I'm not a fan of dogma, but I'm really into living in the present moment, sometimes meditatively, sometimes hedonistically. I've been studying and practicing kung fu for over 9 years now and mostly meditate through movement and ritual herbal practices - like smoking!

My background is pretty academic: I have a bachelor's in anthropology from Ithaca College and a master's in museum studies from the Harvard Extension School, writing my master’s thesis on storytelling through ethnobotanical collections. I've also held 5 roles over 8 years across different Harvard museums, including the university herbarium.

I completed a 3-year clinical herbalism apprenticeship at CommonWealth Holistic Herbalism in 2016. While studying I had my friends try all the herbal preparations I was making, but the smokes were the only ones they kept asking for.

After seeing clients and selling smoke blends around town for a few years, I founded Puff Herbals on the belief that working with herbs through smoke can be a vital and legitimate part of a holistic wellness practice.

I write all of our blog posts and I've had work published via DoubleBlind, HerbRally, and Flower Press among others. In 2020, I was honored to receive the Cosmic Sister Emerging Voices Award.
